8th Rebirth, 56 FE
Leila still sleeping, GuUshal and Vashti go to the kitchen for lunch. GuUshal asks for a roasted goat, and is given a live one, which he takes outside to feed to Shivv’Sha. Vashti is given a book along with her lunch. It is titled Book of Many Symptoms, and is very complicated. GuUshal attempts to read it as well, but none of them can make any sense of it.
They bring food back for Leila, who is just waking up when they enter the apartment.
Leila goes to the toilet after eating. The toilet is not haunted, but it feels weird in that area.
Back in the apartment, GuUshal performs the Teardrop ritual in the common room of the apartment. Vashti tells Leila about the library events, and Leila faints again, when she, again, realizes it was not just all a dream. Vashti then empties a jug of water into Leila’s face, after which she and GuUshal present her with the books. Before studying the books, Leila asks a servant to fetch her a towel.
Leila flips through the Book of Many Symptoms. GuUshal goes patrolling, bringing the other teardrop and his megahammer. Vashti remains with Leila a little while, pointing out the other book to her, while tormenting her further about the library incident. Vashti tries to read the preface of The Book of Transcendental Diseases with Leila, but gives up. Then she sets out to (mentally) map the first floor, bringing her bow along just in case. When leaving, she notices a servant holding a towel, which she drapes over Leila’s head. Leila stays in the apartment to study the books and take notes.
GuUshal turns right from the apartment, enters next hallway, also on his right, goes to the end of it, and goes down the stairs, where he enters the common room on the ground floor. Here, he meets a tall, purple-skinned, four-armed, humanoid creature in the process of reading a book. It gets up to greet him, and they start talking. It soon begins insulting him, calling him names and insulting his mental capacities and ethnicity. After a while, it suddenly disappears in thin air. GuUshal finds a teardrop in its chair.
Vashti goes to the North wing, opposite from the apartment, and starts exploring it from the far end. In the first room she opens the door to, there is a ghostly apparition rapidly speeding towards her, and she quickly slams the door shut. She moves on, finding several magical workshops and laboratories, and a physical exercise room. She then finds a gallery where stuff shakes and falls and breaks, and she quickly escapes.
GuUshal continues out onto the hallway. As he makes his way through, he hears something topple over in one of the rooms on his right. He peeks inside, and nothing seems out of the ordinary, so he continues. He goes out into the entrance hall, and from there he returns to the apartment. Concluding that only Leila is there, deeply absorbed in reading and taking notes, still with a towel over her head, he goes out patrolling again, this time going left, and into the hallway with the toilets.
In the next room Vashti enters, everything seems to be liquid. The walls are running, the ceiling is dripping, and the floor is moving in a wavy kind of way. It creeps up over the doorstep, and tentacles emerge and grab for her. She quickly slams the door and hurries on. She finds a couple of studies, one of them containing a bacon monster, which almost knocks her out, while she is largely unable to cause it any damage. When it unhinges her jaw, she hurries back towards the apartment, bringing a piece of bacon.
GuUshal notices some white substance seeping out from under one of the toilet doors and through cracks in it. After a short while, the door bursts, and whipped cream spills out, and keeps coming. He seeks shelter in a nearby apartment. Realizing that he’ll have to go out again the same way he entered, he searches for a pair of boots he can borrow. Finding an oversized pair, he puts them on instead of his own and makes his way out and back to the first floor balcony, carrying his own boots.
After finishing the preface to The Book of Transcendental Diseases, Leila goes into her room to towel her hair, bringing along the books. Then she sits down to meditate on her knowledge about spirits and how it relates to what she has just read.
Vashti and GuUshal meet on the balcony, and Vashti gets GuUshal to set her jaw. By now, the whipped cream has increased in volume to the point where it is starting to breach the balcony door. They hurry to fetch the oil, and GuUshal tries to make his way to the toilet to perform the ritual. Leila, noticing the commotion, goes out onto the balcony and sees GuUshal, who has relieved himself of his pants, smashing the door to wade through the whipped cream, which spills out onto the balcony and down onto the entrance hall floor, causing Vashti to take refuge on the railing. Leila is struck by the realization that whipped cream in such amounts would make for a very powerful magical focus. She plunges her hand into it and expends all her magical energy to cast a spell that causes a healing incense to spread through the castle, in effect turning the whipped cream into incense.
Vashti, feeling slightly nauseated by the thick fumes, escapes outside. She then starts sucking on the now soggy, rain-soaked bacon, which, to her dismay, tastes of tree sap. She goes back to her room and closes the door. GuUshal sits down in the common room, breathing heavily, and Leila sets out to open doors to let the incense into all the rooms.
